Normally based at Perth Airport they offer full training from Ab initio to NPPL Licence level. Weather depending they will bring along their Gyrocopter and Microlight with flights priced at £40 for 20 minutes and Gyrocopter £50 for 20 minutes. Also there will be Introductory Flights operated by Alba Air Sports and Gyro Fly Experience Perth. Last year over 60 aircraft visited during the weekend while several Vintage and Classic Aircraft are booked in to return to Broomfield. Further activity, dependent on the weather, is also planned at the Broomfield Playing Fields where again a light aircraft Fly-In with aircraft attending from all over the UK.
The Avro Anson aircraft, which arrived in April and is a major restoration project can be viewed in the workshop. Also, on display are a Miles Hawk, Gloster Meteor and a de-Havilland Vampire. Two aircraft from WW1 on display include the BE2 and visitors can check out the Sopwith Camel rebuild. Visitors can sound the air raid siren, man the machine gun and take-off on the Flight Simulator. With activities for children including uniforms to try on, games and stalls. Over the weekend the centre’s own Red Lichtie replica Spitfire will have its cockpit open for visitors to sit in and take their selfie picture, complete in flying jacket, helmet and goggles. Part of the heritage centre’s RAF100 commemorations and promoted as a ‘Squadron Scramble’ after the world war two pilots who ran to their Spitfire aircraft when the alarm bell was rung, visitors will find lots of action to hold the attention.
